About our fabric surface “Soft Top” mouse pads...
These are the most popular type of mouse pads ever. The
construction is pretty simple:
1. The Base. Constructed of natural sponge rubber.
2. The Top. This is the polyester fabric mousing surface. It is
‘vulcanized’ to the rubber base. This means it is applied to
the rubber while it is still
somewhat ‘molten’, and then
when the mousepad’s sponge
rubber base finally cools, the fabric is stuck to it. This is
both the most economical production process, and the
best,since no toxic chemicals are needed for the
laminating of the two parts.
The printing processes.
We specialize in two printing processes for the soft top
custom printed mousepads:
1. Sublimation dye printing.
This is a wonderful printing process for fabric. Perfect for
fabric surface mouse pads. The polyester fabric on the top of
the mousepad is what is such as great ‘host’ to the
sublimation dye imprint. Sublimation dye is first printed onto
a paper sheet (in reverse as looking in a mirror). This type of
printing takes years of experience to become good at. The
dye does not come off the press looking like the colors
called for at all! They are at first quite dull and often are
different hues all together! It is only under heat and pressure
that the sublimation dye ‘develops’ and the colors come
bursting out to become the print they were designed to be.
And also under the heat and pressure, the colors are ‘locked’
into the fabric at the molecular level. The dye won’t bind with
cotton or most other fabrics. Polyester is the preferred host
for fabric.
It is important to make certain allowances in for the artwork in
mouse pads custom printed in this way. Much of it has to do
with the behavior of the sublimation dye during the
heat/pressure stage of imprinting. The dye ‘puffs out’ and
creates a lot of what is known as ‘dot gain’. There are more

Heidelberg printing presses, the best in the business.
Sample heat-pressed prints to mouse pads are being done
during the print run to assure quality from beginning to end.
2. Decal printing
This works great for most logos, when a colored mouse pad
is wanted with just a simple print somewhere on the pad,
such as a logo in the corner or in the center. The durability
of our decal process is senior to screen printing. They are
also heat pressed ‘into’ the mouse pads. Very sharp looking
and also very economical.

Our typical production time is 2 - 2 1/2 weeks. It
can vary and we’ll always give you your estimated
production time when you place your order. We
have several steps that we can take to speed up
the process without extra charge. Just be sure to
let us know if you have a special deadline that must
be met so we can work it into our production
schedule properly.
